The Bear

The bear and the other two told each other everything about themselves. They didn't understand each other's language, but it kept their minds from the thing outside.

Once in a while the thing outside made noise trying to fit some part of itself through the entrance.

The other two killed the bear as if they had consulted each other beforehand, which of course they had not. They had to eat something.

When it realized the bear was dead, the thing outside left.
