ONE BLOODY PRESS RELEASE Hi, I'm cartoonist Michel Lacombe. My book ONE BLOODY YEAR: FALL will be in stores in August 2003, and is solicited for purchase in Diamond's PREVIEWS vol. 13 number 6. It's on page 345, ordering code JUN03 2415. The publisher is Michel Lacombe Illustration Inc. ONE BLOODY YEAR: FALL has 41 pages of story and retails for 5.30$US or 7.95$ Canadian. ONE BLOODY YEAR is written and drawn by myself, Michel Lacombe, based on an idea by Dan Villeneuve. By the time it's over, ONE BLOODY YEAR will be a 160-some-page vampire romance, the hero of which kills himself on page three. It's about unrequited love, sweet and sour family relationships and what happens when you suddenly give a lot of power to someone who wasn't properly taught how to be a human being. And it has a dozen vampires getting involved in a biker gang war. * THE PLOT Sarah was the only good thing about Geoff's life. FALL starts with Geoff's suicide jump, after Sarah left him. And then Geoff wakes up three nights later, transformed into a vampire. It turns out Sarah hadn't left Geoff at all. She was enthralled by the vampire Daedalus, who needs to understand why Sarah loves Geoff, so he can make her love him instead. * THE POINT Vampires are cool. I don't believe myth has ever produced a better metaphor for blind destructive lust. What I liked about the story of Geoff and Sarah and Daedalus when Dan first told me it was how well it could speak of those who suffer from being taught the game of life by people who never read the rulebook themselves. That being said, feel free to enjoy the vampires. * THE CRITICS Randy Lander of THE FOURTH RAIL: "Lacombe has created a vampire subculture that is full of willing debauchery and inhuman cruelty, but what makes the book resonate is how human they all seem." Don MacPherson of THE FOURTH RAIL: "Lacombe's story is about what happens when pettiness is combined with power. The vampires in this story are spoiled brats, children without a bedtime who are dipping into the cookie jar with abandon." http://www.thefourthrail.com/features/0703/onebloodyyear.shtml Michael May of COMIC WORLD NEWS: "A geek loves a beautiful girl who is also his best friend, but she loves someone else. If this were a John Hughes film, we¹d expect to reach the end having learned something about friendship and love. Lacombe gives the geek supernatural powers so that he can control the beautiful girl and torture the other guy. (...)
